Catholic Schools Week Fun

This week we are celebrating Catholic Schools Week. The theme is "Raise the Standards"

 

 

Monday, January 28th:

 

Today each student in the school was assigned a prayer partner for the week. We also made a paper chain link with our prayers. They are displayed outside the class.

Finish up Topic 6, numbers to 100, and begin Topic 7, "Understanding Addition"

*Counting by 2s (your child should be able to count by 2s up to 20)
*Stories about joining
*More joining
*Joining groups
*Using the plus sign

Common Core Standards we will cover:

K.OA.1, K.OA.2, K.OA.5

We will also be doing a lot of work with the number zero and 100!! The 100th day is Thursday! please email me if you would like to volunteer!!

 

 

Take Home Folders

We are now more than halfway through the year! Wow! We are now officially getting ready for first grade. A few things I would like for you to make sure your child is doing while he/she reads:

 

 

-Tracking the words (pointing to each word with your finger as you read)

- Reading with expression (I'm noticing many students reading like "robots"!!)

- Sounding out words they don't know (don't read the word for your child)

Ask your child comprehension questions while they are reading. Some examples: "What do you think is going to happen next? Who are the characters in the story? What is the setting? And so on...

Please make sure to send back the books that have been at home for a while! I cannot send a new book home until the old one is returned!
